The U.S. Navy has approved additional installations of Raytheon Standard Missile-6 weapon system on ships that carry two baselines of Aegis Combat Weapon Systems.
More than 35 ships in the Aegis Combat Weapon System baselines 5.3 and 3.A.0 series will be equipped with SM-6, Raytheon said Wednesday.
SM-6 weapons work to engage manned and unmanned aerial vehicles and fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft.
Raytheon will perform the final assembly of SM-6 at its Huntsville, Alabama-based Redstone Arsenal facility.
