SRA internationalSRA International has joined an international data-sharing coalition that seeks to develop a common framework for organizations to exchange genomic information for research and clinical applications.

SRA said Tuesday that Global Alliance for Genomics and Health members come from the information technology, healthcare, research, life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors.

“We’re pleased to become a member of the Global Alliance and support its valuable mission to support advances in human health through scientific collaboration,” said Kamal Narang, vice president of SRA’s health business unit.

The company also won two contracts to develop bioinformatics tools for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health.

CDC chose SRA to help the agency’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases create new methods to track and diagnose viral and bacterial infections.

SRA will also work with Google and the Institute for Systems Biology to build a cloud-based data storage infrastructure for a cancer genome atlas program backed by NIH’s National Cancer Institute.
