BAE Systems has submitted a proposal to build an aircraft protection system for the U.S. Army in a move to protect troops from infrared-guided missiles.
The common infrared countermeasure program is a laser-based system designed to counter missile threats against rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft, BAE said Monday.
Bill Staib, director of threat management services at BAE Systems, said the company intends for the aircraft survivability proposal to help “protect U.S. military aircraft and troops from existing and evolving infrared-guided threats.”
The system will be part of an infrared countermeasure suite in addition to a missile warning system and a dispenser for flares.
BAE completed the evaluation phase for the CIRCM offering at its Worrell/Weeks Aircrew Protection Center.
