LexisNexisLexisNexis Risk Solutions has conducted a survey on how government and commercial collection of personal identification information impacts consumer behavior.

The company polled more than 3,000 consumers over their willingness to share personal information with the financial, healthcare, retail and government sectors in low, medium and high risk transactions, LexisNexis said Tuesday.

“Organizations need to be cognizant of how consumers’ fears and experiences affect their willingness to share sensitive data and seek ways to minimize the amount of personal information being requested,” said Dennis Becker, LexisNexis Risk Solutions vice president.

Sixty percent of survey respondents expressed willingness to provide their data to financial institutions and 17 percent said they agree with the idea of sharing personal information with retailers.

Seventy-one percent of surveyed consumers also said they trust government institutions with their social security number while other respondents said they would refuse to provide their information to healthcare organizations.

LexisNexis conducted the online survey in December 2013.
