IBM will not make the Watson cognitive computing system a large portion of the proposal that company and its partner Epic will provide to the Defense Department for the agency’s potential 10-year, $11 billion electronic health records contract, an IBM official has told the Washington Post.
“We’re going to bid what the government asks for.. right now they’re asking for an implemented [system]. We believe down the road [we can provide] technologies that can change the game,” Andy Maner, managing partner for IBM’s federal business, said to Post reporter Mohana Ravindranath.
According to the Post, the Pentagon wants to start testing and implementation work for the Defense Healthcare Management System Modernization project during the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
GovCon Wire covered the release of the request for proposals in August, as well as many of the teaming arrangements contractors have formed to pursue the DHMSM program, such as the partnership between IBM and Epic.
