Businesses should strategically think through cloud technology options before making an investment, Kevin King, director of corporate communications at Verizon Enterprise, wrote in a Wednesday blog post.
King says that enterprise resource planning applications for financial and supply chain management account for a large percentage of cloud deployments and such investing behavior will likely to continue going forward.
He believes that a hybrid model can help government agencies and highly-regulated sectors to better manage and secure their applications in the cloud.
“As enterprises gain experience with cloud ecosystems, and realize the cost and efficiency gains, the result is deeper integration with existing systems as well as expansion into different geographies,” he writes.
Many open, collaborative ecosystems have been formed to help companies build cloud-based tools, according to King.
He adds that open-source technology is intended to minimize the need for an organization to buy hardware, establish a data center or license software products.
