Hughes Network Systems has received a contract modification from the Texas Department of Information Resources to provide additional offerings in support of the Texas Agency Network Next Generation Communications Technology Services program.
The company said Aug. 12 the expanded contract includes Internet bandwidth tokens for small or home offices, redeployable satellites for fixed satellite services and move/add/change services for both.
“This modification ensures state and local government entities can take advantage of the latest Hughes satellite technology available to support home and small office locations,” said Tony Bardo, Hughes assistant vice president for government solutions.
He noted that the Tex-AN NG program has helped provide Internet access to areas beyond the coverage of terrestrial broadband Internet.
The original five-year, multiple-award Tex-AN NG contract was awarded to Hughes in 2011 and covers satellite Internet services based on the HX platform for at least 600 public or government units within Texas, the company said.
