A subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies has won a potential $17.6 program to help carry out a technology transfer and flight hardware upgrade program for NASA‘s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Teledyne Energy Systems will implement the Technology Maturation Program at JPL to turn skutterudite thermoelectric materials into flight-like components, the company said Tuesday.
NASA and the company intend to develop a new Multi Mission Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator to power future spacecraft with the components.
“We are happy to build on our more than 40-year heritage of providing power systems for NASA’s deep space missions,” said Robert Mehrabian, Teledyne’s chairman, president and chief executive officer.
“The new thermoelectric materials in the eMMRTG should enable the next evolutionary step providing more capability to future space missions.”
This contract continues a previous contract awarded in 2013 and covers the next two phases of the program, which the company aims to conclude in 2018.
