Siemens AG and China-based Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd. have formed a joint venture to develop electric powertrain systems for the Chinese green drive-technologies market.
The Beijing Siemens Automotive E-Drive System JV will be established to produce electric drivetrain parts such as power-electronics and electric motors, Siemens said Sunday.
The company aims to help China continue progress on its goal to set environmental standards through New Energy Vehicle technologies.
“We will pave the way for a higher share of e-mobility on tomorrow’s roads,†said Siegfried Russwurm, member of the managing board of Siemens AG and CEO of its industry sector.
A prototype will be developed in 2014 and mass production of more than 100,000 units annually is scheduled to begin in 2015 at Beijing-based facility.
BAIC will be the first customer to incorporate the electric power train system into its car products.
