BoeingLogo1 EbizBoeing has completed on-orbit testing ofand delivered the first of four contracted Inmarsat-5 satellites for Inmarsat‘s Global Xpress mobile broadband network, with the remaining three scheduled for launch between late 2014 and 2016.

“The testing of the Boeing built platform and payload has been completed and shown to meet all the specifications,” Rupert Pearce, CEO of Inmarsat, said Tuesday.

Inmarsat launched the satellite Dec. 8 to support in-flight connectivity, video streaming, voice and data services and other commercial and government uses.

Through a reseller deal with Inmarsat, Boeing Commercial Satellite Services will lease the Inmarsat-5 secondary payload to government customers.
