leidos_purpleLeidos has engineered a shelter system for military personnel who are fielded in expeditionary missions.

The Self-sustaining Living Module is built with features for solar energy and microgrid power management, rainwater collection, water purification systems and onsite setup and teardown systems, Leidos said Monday.

Sam Gordy, a Leidos group president, said SLiM is built to help protect soldiers and provide these warfighters with energy-efficient operations support services.

The company is contracted to develop the shelter system for the U.S. Army‘s Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center.

NSRDEC provides support systems for American troops such as feeding, clothing and precision airdrop systems; as well as ballistic, chemical and laser protection.

Leidos will further work to assemble and demonstrate the concept under a contract.
