IBC Engineered Materials will design, manufacture and work to implement a hard tooling method for sensor technology used on the Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter jet.
IBC-EMC, a subsidiary of IBC Advanced Alloys, will aim to establish Beralcast castings for the jet’s Electro-Optical Targeting System optical components under a subcontract awarded by Lockheed, IBC said Tuesday.
The subsidiary is working to complete prototype castings for pre-production approval.
Anthony Dutton, president and CEO of IBC, said the company intends for its beryllium aluminum casting product to meet requirements on weight and cost.
Beralcast is built to be stiffer and lighter than aluminum and is designed for integration into three-dimensional industrial and aerospace components, IBC says.
