Exelis has partnered with live traffic video aggregator TrafficLand to produce real-time weather condition data for joint customers in the U.S.
Exelis will consolidate its weather intelligence and imaging technology with TrafficLand’s network that covers more than 15,000 U.S. Transportation Department traffic cameras, TrafficLand said Monday.
Lawrence Nelson, CEO of TrafficLand, said the partnership aims to help deliver weather information updates to public agencies, media and other customers through connected devices.
Helios, an Exelis-built environmental intelligence platform, will work to analyze images from TrafficLand’s camera network and detect weather conditions across various U.S. locations.
“Exelis is applying similar science used for Earth imaging and environmental satellites, which produce weather data for forecasters, to the TrafficLand network of cameras,” said Eric Webster, Exelis geospatial systems vice president of weather systems.
Users can access content from the Helios platform via application programming and Web interfaces, the companies say.
