Cloud EbizBusinesses and enterprises will increasingly look to cloud computing as a necessity rather than an option and a majority of data center traffic will likely travel through a cloud platform next year, according to a Carpathia Hosting list of predictions.

In that forecast published Monday, the hosting services provider also says both startup and established software vendors are now delivering software to customers via cloud environments instead of CDs.

Application developers will also see their roles in the cloud transformation grow due to an industry shift toward agile and open source software, Carpathia predicts.

Carpathia also eyes information technology departments having a more decentralized structure and C-level executives becoming more involved in IT decisions with business functions increasingly moving to the cloud.

A separate forecast by IDC predicts spending on cloud brokerage services to go up by 30% in 2014 and Carpathia sees those intermediaries becoming of greater importance to businesses faced with choices over which cloud tools to acquire.

Brokers work to aggregate, integrate and customize cloud services for clients seeking application resources and builds.
