Boeing plans to test this year two General Electric-built T408 engines for its CH-47 Chinook helicopters, Rotor & Wing International reported Monday. Boeing and GE plan to evaluate the engine’s increased payload and other capabilities through a cooperative research and development agreement that started in 2016.

Tim Malia on Sikorsky’s X2 Helicopter Technology
Tim Malia, director of future vertical lift-light at Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky subsidiary, told The War Zone in an interview published Wednesday about the X2 helicopter technology and its potential role in the development of FVL aircraft. “The term X2 technology refers to a suite of technologies developed by Sikorsky that enable the X2 aircraft to operate at high speed while improving operational capability, maneuverability, agility, survivability, and lethality at the landing zone,†Malia said.
Army Solicits Proposals for Missile Defense Sensor Prototype Dev’t Contract
The U.S. Army has issued a request for proposals for novel platforms designed to meet the service’s requirements for the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor program. A FedBizOpps notice posted Tuesday says the service will use the other transaction authority for the rapid prototyping initiative to award a three-year, firm-fixed-price contract to a single offeror in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Lockheed to Support Army Training Hardware Repair Project

Army Eyes Six OTA Awards Under ‘Enterprise IT as a Service’ Program
The U.S. Army plans to award six contracts under the Enterprise Information Technology as a Service program using its “other transaction†authority, Bloomberg Government reported Friday. “We are using the OTA process to do the prototyping of how to execute EITaaS more rapidly,†Tara Clements, a spokesperson for the Army’s program executive office for enterprise information systems, said in an email.
