A Jacobs Engineering Group and Atkins joint venture has been selected to design three motorway projects in England.
The team will deploy integrated transport systems in junctions 13 to 15 of the M6, 3 to 5 of the M20 and 8 to 10 of the M23 projects in order to transmit traffic data to motorists and monitor traffic conditions, Jacobs said Thursday.
Jacobs Group Vice President Bob Duff said the transport services are intended to help the U.K. develop the nation’s transportation infrastructure.
Under the contract with Highways England, the joint venture will build additional miles of lanes for the motorways.
The project’s goal is to minimize traffic congestion using various technologies to control speed limits and manage lanes, Jacobs says.
