northrop-Grumman_BLUENorthrop Grumman will add early detection, threat warning, signal analysis and other functions to its AN/SLQ-32 electronic warfare system as part of a $267 million contract it received from the U.S. Navy in February.

The company said Thursday the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program Block 3 contract seeks to upgrade the electronic warfare attack system to protect Navy vessels from enemy missiles.

“This is the first simultaneous multi-mission enabler to be developed and deployed on Navy surface ships,” said Teri Marconi, vice president and general manager of Northrop’s navigation and maritime systems division.

Northrop said it is prime integrator on the contract and will provide its active electronically scanned array and electronic warfare technology to support the SEWIP program.
