Deltek and the Public Technology Institute conducted a survey on how government information technology leaders facilitate the transformation of smart cities, the Washington Post reported Friday.
Chris Dixon, a senior manager at Deltek, writes the study indicates that more than 60 percent of local IT professionals have been developing frameworks for interagency data sharing and 42 percent for enterprise-wide information access.
Almost half of respondents said their agencies have an accountable leader to execute the IT strategies in local projects, according to Dixon.
Twenty-eight percent believe big data could bring value to local government organizations and nine percent said big data utilization is part of their agencies’ operational strategy.
Dixon reports the number of local IT leaders who are unsure of big data technology’s potential advantages decreased from 59 percent in 2013 to 45 percent in 2014.
