Level 3 Communications has opened a data center in Herndon, Virginia, to deliver cloud computing and managed information technology services to government and other enterprise clients.
The Herndon facility is the newest addition to the company’s Premier Elite global infrastructure network and features power, cooling, security and connectivity systems, Level 3 said Thursday.
Premier Elite data centers are built to help customers manage business applications, address business continuity issues and leverage cloud-based platforms from Amazon Web Services and Microsoft.
“Cloud-based services and mobile applications are increasingly critical to an organization’s ability to focus on core initiatives while driving efficiency and growth,” said Paul Savill, Level 3 senior vice president for core product management.
Mike Sapien, a principal analyst at Ovum, said the market research company has found that Northern Virginia is one of three leading data center markets worldwide.
Level 3 also runs Premier Elite facilities in San Francisco, Omaha and 17 locations across Latin America and Europe.
