Lockheed Martin has concluded Milestone C testing of an electronic warfare system the company built to defend U.S. Navy combat vessels from anti-ship missile attacks.
Lockheed is updating threat detection technology on the Navy’s cruisers, destroyers and aircraft carriers under a contract awarded in 2009 through the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program, Lockheed said Tuesday.
The SEWIP Block 2 tests were intended to demonstrate how the system could deliver countermeasures in multiple simulated enviroments.
“Milestone C is a critical step towards delivering these next generation systems to the fleet,” said Joseph Ottaviano, director of surface electronic warfare at Lockheed mission systems and training division.
Lockheed received Milestone C approval for the EW platform last year and is now preparing for the system’s integration onto the Navy fleet.
