Jonathon Wells announced on LinkedIn Monday that he has been appointed vice president of mission systems and weapons at Lockheed Martin’s Rotary Mission Systems business unit.
The longstanding Lockheed Martin executive will oversee a diverse portfolio that includes airborne mission systems, laser weapon systems, launching systems and counter unmanned aerial systems. Wells will also manage the U.K. Integrated Systems division, serving a wide range of domestic and international clients.

Wells has been with Lockheed Martin since 2009. In over 16 years at the company, he served in various program management roles, including VP of program management and program management director. Wells was also VP of air and commercial solutions as well as training and logistics solutions, where he spearheaded the development and integration of training programs for military and commercial clients in both aviation and ground sectors.
The Lockheed Martin executive managed various programs including F-35 training development and modernization, F-35 autonomic logistics information system, directed energy sub-market segment and medical laser market segment. Wells also worked as a systems architect and principal investigator at Aculight, a Lockheed Martin subsidiary.
Before his Lockheed Martin career, Wells was heavily invested in the field of medical lasers. A prolific innovator, he developed numerous inventions focused on laser-based neurostimulation, including neuroprosthetic devices and microsurgical lasers. He has patented more than 20 inventions in the medical laser field so far.
