The U.S. Department of State has cleared a proposed sale of heavy-duty tank trailers and related equipment to Israel.
The potential arms deal will cost approximately $164.6 million with deliveries set to begin in 2027, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday.
The upcoming purchase will be added to an original $40.1 million foreign military sale case, in which the Israeli government had requested to purchase tank trailer spare and repair parts, technical services and other elements of logistics and program support.
The DSCA noted that the sale of defense articles will enhance Tel Aviv’s ability to defend its border against existing and emerging threats.
Virginia-based Leonardo DRS is the principal contractor of the proposed sale of military equipment.
The deal comes following the U.S. government’s announcement of a $20 billion weapons support package, including F-15 fighters, for Israel in early 2024.
