Artificial intelligence has seen accelerated growth and development in the last year, and the technology has become a source of major hype in the public and private sectors alike. But while AI presents a myriad of new opportunities, it’s also unlocking new challenges.
“AI is something that’s been around for a very long time, and just like quantum, it’s continuing to accelerate faster and faster,” said SandboxAQ Public Sector President Jen Sovada in a recent video interview with Executive Mosaic. “I think that we will see areas where AI will enhance our capabilities, but… if we don’t use the data the right way or understand where the data comes from, it could be detrimental.”
Large language models have come into the spotlight in 2023 with the release of popular LLMs like ChatGPT early in the year. But Sovada warned against the dangers of LLMs and underscored the importance of knowing where your data is being stored.
“If you have someone from the U.S. government who is just doing research on a project that might be of interest to the U.S. government, that data may be stored someplace else and other people have access to it,” said Sovada, who serves as chair of Executive Mosaic’s 4×24 Quantum Group.

She explained that what makes LLMs so powerful is the continual feed of data that goes into them and their ability to use algorithms to create new insights from this data.
“We have to be cautious as to where we share our data, how we share our data, and then understand how it is collated and created into that new amount of information,” she urged.
In addition to AI, Sovada spoke on the challenges and opportunities surrounding quantum in the public sector. Watch her full video interview here for more insights, and subscribe to Executive Mosaic’s YouTube channel to stay up-to-date with GovCon thought leaders.
