L3Harris Technologies has received a $46.6 million U.S. Navy contract modification, which exercises options for producing, testing and conducting the technical review of two shallow-water training ranges to support Undersea Warfare Training Range Increment II and Increment III requirements.
Under the firm-fixed-price modification, the company will also be responsible for delivering various products to the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center, which include internode cable and assemblies for various modules, internode cable terminations and repair kits to aid in the training and assessment of the Navy’s air, surface and subsurface forces in both shallow and deep water in difficult conditions, the Department of Defense said.
Services under the contract are expected to be completed in May 2026 and will be performed in multiple locations across California, Hawaii and the Bahamas.
At the time of the award, fiscal 2022 and 2023 research, development, test and evaluation funds worth $4.1 million and $21.9 million, respectively, and fiscal 2023 other procurement funds of $20.6 million will be obligated. The contracting activity is the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division.
The modification came after a $393 million follow-on contract, which built on the early completion of an initial $127 million contract was awarded to the former L-3 Communications company.
Under the original award, L3Harris’ legacy organization designed, manufactured and installed a new undersea warfare training system spanning 500 square nautical miles. The company also provided infrastructure, including shore facilities and equipment and near-shore cable and seabed sensors to instrument an area of approximately 200 nautical miles.
USWTR Increment I, which was implemented during the execution of the two previous contracts, reached its full operational capability in November of this year, a decade after the initial win.
