Infrastructure Company Granite to Build Homeporting Facilities for Coast Guard Cutters in Oregon

Granite Construction has secured a $30 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security to perform renovations and constructions at East Tongue Point in Oregon, where two U.S. Coast Guard fast response cutters will be homeported.

The design-build contract covers a fixed pier, floating docks, gangways connecting the floating docks to the pier, new pavement and parking, a security fence and other facilities, the infrastructure company said Thursday.

“The first FRC will arrive in Astoria at the updated East Tongue Point facility, which is currently expected to be delivered to the USCG in June 2024,” said Curt Haldeman, vice president of regional operations at Granite.

The construction project is expected to be completed in June 2025.

The Sentinel-class fast response cutters are armed with a stabilized 25 mm machine gun mount and four crew-served .50-caliber machine guns and are designed to support a range of missions including coastal security, fishery patrols and search and rescue.
