The Department of Defense has awarded contract actions worth $36.9M combined to Rolls-Royce and aircraft fuel technology provider Amfuel in a move to drive domestic production at the industrial-base level.
The Defense Production Act Title III contract actions will utilize funding from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act to restore jobs at the shipbuilding and aviation supply chains that were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the DoD said Friday.
Rolls-Royce secured a $22M agreement to help the DoD fill gaps in the production of propellers to support the U.S. Navy’s shipbuilding efforts in the Gulf Coast area throughout a 36-month period.
The company plans to expand its manufacturing hub in Pascagoula, Miss., to support the initiative, according to the DoD notice.
The Pentagon also awarded Magnolia, Ark.-based Amfuel a $14.9M contract to help accelerate the production of aircraft auxiliary systems and fuel bladders to support long-term domestic manufacturing activities for all U.S. military aircraft.
Work under the contract will take place at Amfuel’s headquarters location.
The contract actions come as part of DoD's collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services and Federal Emergency Management Agency to allocate over $2.9B in medical equipment and services to federal agencies and U.S. military branches.
