Technology companies such as Google, Amazon Web Services and Accenture are helping states address website crashes, busy phone lines and other issues as they process unemployment claims during the coronavirus pandemic, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
States such as Rhode Island and Kansas have turned to AWS to replace their legacy systems with a cloud-based technology to field more calls from individuals seeking unemployment aid.
A spokeswoman for Amazon said about 75K individuals in Rhode Island were able to file jobless claims with the state’s labor department on the phone during the first day of the system’s implementation.
Todd Schroeder, director of public-sector digital strategy for Google Cloud, said Google is using artificial intelligence and cloud to help the labor departments of New York and Illinois, among others, update their legacy computer systems and website capacities as well as facilitate the automation of the claim-filing process.
The Texas Workforce Commission sought the help of Accenture to build an AI system to manage inquiries using chatbots.
