CB Insights has observed that executive mentions of blockchain on earnings calls are declining. A report from the market research company found traditional equity investments in the sector hit $784M through 227 deals as of July 1.
Based on that run rate, blockchain companies are projected to attract $1.6B in venture capital funds during 2019, down from $4.1B in total investments recorded last year.
Data also showed the number of blockchain-related corporate deals at the close of second quarter hit only 96. At this pace, CB Insights projected corporate funding activity for the technology will drop 36 percent this year compared with the 302 transactions during 2018.
The report named Digital Currency Group as the top investor in blockchain, followed by Boost VC and Blockchain Capital.
