HackerOne and the Department of Defense have collaborated to introduce a ninth cybersecurity challenge meant to encourage ethical hackers to identify vulnerabilities in public-facing government web platforms.
The company said Thursday the four-week bug bounty event, scheduled to occur through Nov. 8, is the second of its kind for the U.S. Army and will cover 60 online assets accessible to the public. Government employees, active military personnel and individuals invited by HackerOne are eligible to join.
During the first Hack the Army challenge held in late 2016, 371 participants submitted 118 valid vulnerability reports and received a total of $100K in cash prizes.
Similar efforts occurred in the past to boost cybersecurity at the Pentagon, Air Force, Marine Corps and the Defense Travel System.
“Over the past three years, our hackers have helped the DoD find and resolve more than 10,000 vulnerabilities and we are excited to bring this new challenge to the uniquely talented hacker army up for the task,†HackerOne CEO Marten Mickos.
