General Motors’ vision for its defense segment is to “reimagine” ways of turning its commercial vehicles and other technology products into platforms that could be offered to the U.S. military and allied forces, Defense One reported Thursday.

“We’re open to partnership,” said David Albritton, president of GM Defense. “Having been out of the defense business since 2003, this is a reintroduction in large part.”

GM Defense’s plan includes selling a line of security, autonomy, mobility and commercial propulsion systems to military clients.

GM Defense has an executive team whose members have experience working at several defense companies such as Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and L3Harris Technologies. It was one of the three competitors selected by the U.S. Army in August to build a ground mobility platform for infantry forces under the service branch’s Infantry Squad Vehicle program.
