Customs and Border Protection is seeking a contractor that can help the Department of Homeland Security implement biometrics technology to update its traveler vetting systems, Nextgov reported Friday.
CBP aims to deploy facial recognition technology for processing international travelers and move related vetting applications to the cloud to enable self-service operations and mobile functionalities for officers.
According to a solicitation notice, CBP intends to deploy facial recognition capabilities “throughout all passenger applications†and other potential areas such as cybersecurity and self-service for customers.
CBP expects work under the contract to begin in December and continue through May 2025. The agency aims to transfer all related processing applications to the cloud by 2024.
