Atlas Space Operations has added nine new ground stations to its satellite communications network, providing a total of 13 ground stations. Its new stations began operations over the past two quarters in support of Atlas’ global satcom services, the company said Wednesday.

These new stations provide service for multiple global locations such as Australia, French Polynesia, Germany and Japan in addition to various U.S. states. Sean McDaniel, CEO at Atlas, said the company strategically selected locations that expand the ground network’s geographical range.

The company has been adding a new ground station each month and plans to remain consistent with this rate. This increase in stations supports Atlas’ goal to accelerate data transmissions. Atlas aims to establish 17 additional ground sites by 2020.
