Hughes Presents Satcom Tech Prototype to Military Officials; Rick Lober Quoted

Hughes Network Systems has demonstrated a hardware technology built to protect military communications from intentional or environmental interference and support interoperability between satellite communications platforms.

The company said Monday it presented to top Department of Defense officials the Multi-modem Adaptor prototype that works to autonomously select modem, satellite and service providers to help users manage network operations in the field.

Rick Lober, vice president and general manager of Hughes’ defense and intelligence systems business, said that commercial satellite technology advancements help transform military communications.

Lober added the company showcased its platform in a move to offer a glimpse into the future of satcom architecture.

Rajeev Gopal, senior technical director of advanced systems at Hughes, said the technology will work to help DoD use commercial high-throughput satellite systems and future low and medium Earth orbit networks to manage communications.

The company developed its platform through a pilot study program focused on satcom tools and methods for potential military use.
