Keith Salisbury, vice president of federal business at Pivotal Software, told Government Matters in a video interview posted Wednesday that he believes the Defense Department needs to accelerate the way it develops applications in order to win future wars.
“We believe the battlefield of tomorrow is one where you need to show up software-enabled if you expect to win,†he said.
He discussed how the U.S. Air Force leverages cloud and modern software development to build apps in order to carry out its missions.
“We have seen the Air Force with us leaning very aggressively on this and absolutely build great modern software applications that run on any cloud infrastructure and to do it in timelines measured in days not years,†Salisbury said.
“We’ve seen those mission capabilities immediately adopted particularly in Central Command and transformed the way missions are being accomplished out there and that’s powerful.â€
