Matthew Nathan, a retired U.S. Navy vice admiral, has joined Humanetics‘ medical advisory board and he will provide guidance to the company’s efforts to develop medical countermeasures to protect warfighters.
He supervised 64,000 military personnel as the 37th Navy surgeon general and chief of the service branch’s Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Humanetics said Thursday.
“[Nathan] possesses a unique understanding of military medicine and the needs of warfighters, his medical expertise and training will be invaluable to our product development efforts,” said Ronald Zenk, CEO of Humanetics.
Nathan also commanded the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Navy Medicine, and currently serves as senior vice president of physician practices and enterprise leader for the WakeMed Health System campus in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Humanetics is developing a new drug, called BIO 300, that seeks to counter adverse risks from ionizing radiation.
The Defense Department licensed the radioprotectant to the company.
