The University of Maryland in Baltimore County has landed the top spot during the 2017 National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition sponsored by Raytheon.
Teams from top 10 colleges and universities participated in the three-day NCCDC championship that kicked off April 13 in San Antonio, Texas, Raytheon said Saturday.
“This is the fourth year we have been the title sponsor of NCCDC and watching these students practice their skills in real-life business scenarios gives me confidence we are growing the workforce-ready cyber talent that will meet the future demands of this important field,” said Dave Wajsgras, president of Raytheon’s intelligence, information and services business segment and an inductee into Executive Mosaic’s Wash100 for 2017.
Raytheon will tour the winning team to several national cybersecurity and research locations in Washington, D.C. this summer.
The University of Tulsa ranked second in the competition, followed by Brigham Young University at third place.
The 10 finalist teams that were selected out of at least 230 regional participants competed against each other on how to safeguard and defend a retail company with 160 employees and its network of inventory and point-of-sale systems from cyber attacks.
