The World Affairs Council held its annual gala at Ritz Carlton-Washington, D.C., on March 29 to honor organizations that contributed to global education, international affairs and global communications.
Defense Secretary Ashton Carter was the event’s keynote speaker and also received the International Public Service Award, World Affairs Council said March 11.
IBM Corp. was among the five awardees and received the Global Education Award.
World Affairs Council also presented the Educator of the Year Award to George Mason University, the Global Communications Award to the National Geographic Society and the Distinguished Diplomatic Service Award to the Republic of South Africa.
U.S. Army (ret.) Capt. Florent Groberg also received the Medal of Honor for his role in Afghanistan and Iraq.
