Donald Carty, a director at EMC, and GoPro President Anthony Bates have joined the board of directors of VMware.
“With their business insight and experience across diverse industries as well as technology companies, their perspective and counsel will prove invaluable for the VMware board and executive team,” VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger said Tuesday.
Carty has been with EMC since last year and previously worked as vice chairman and chief financial officer at Dell as well as chairman and CEO at AMR Corp. and its American Airlines subsidiary.
He also currently serves as chairman of Virgin America Airlines and a director at Canadian National Railway Co.
Before Bates joined GoPro as president, he served as executive vice president of business development and evangelism at Microsoft.
He also led Skype as its chief executive before Microsoft acquired the instant messaging technology business in 2011 and held various positions at Cisco Systems.
Bates is also a member of the board of directors at Ebay and Sirius X.M. Holdings.
