A U.S. military satellite carrying United Aerospace Systems-built intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance sensors has completed four years in orbit.
The Operationally Responsive Space-1 satellite works to provide the U.S. Central Command with imagery and data to help increase warfighters’ battlefield awarenesss, UTC Aerospace Systems said Monday.
ORS-1 launched aboard a Minotaur I rocket from NASA’s Wallops Island Flight Facility in Virginia on June 29, 2011.
UTC Aerospace Systems built the satellite’s multi-spectral sensor payload and ground infrastructure for processing and disseminating information.
The satellite has been included on C4ISR Journal’s top 25 most important concepts list and won the Association of Old Crows’ 2012 Mission Sustainment Integrated Product Team award.
