Raytheon has selected the University of Central Florida as the winner of this year’s Raytheon National Collegiate Cyber Defense comptetition held April 25-27 in San Antonio, Texas.
The University of Central Florida and nine other universities were tasked to keep a fictional business running while under constant cyber attack, the company announced Sunday.
As part of the competition, the University of Central Florida took home the Raytheon NCCDC Alamo Cup.
“As every sector of our society increases its reliance on networks and devices that must be protected, this competition provides practical experience to help prepare the next generation of cybersecurity leaders to defend the ever growing internet of things against increasing threats,” said Jack Harrington, Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services vice president for cyber and special missions.
“The Raytheon National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition brings together the best of the best. Watching these teams test their skills against government and industry cyber experts gives us confidence in our economic and national security.”
The nine universities were selected from a pool of more than 180 colleges and universities made-up of 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students across the country.
The 2014 Raytheon NNCDC was organized by the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security.
