Cisco‘s STEMconnector organization has launched a program for promoting interest in science, technology, engineering and math careers for women ahead of National Mentoring Month, U.S. News reported Thursday.Â
Katherine Beard writes that the Million Women Mentors program will match women and girls interested in pursuing STEM degrees and career with potential mentors in the industry.
The mentorship program intends to raise the interest of women pursuing careers in STEM fields to 20 percent from 13 percent, according to the report.
“Through mentors and sponsorship we can not only show these women what the STEM opportunities are, but we can make sure they become leaders, become successful, and that they contribute to our society and our future,” said Patrice D’Eramo, Cisco vice president of America Field Marketing.
National Girls Collaborative Project is also a founding partner of the MVM.
