Exelis has been awarded a contract worth more than $8 million to deploy ground control approach radar system to Estonia.
The Estonian armed forces aim to use the GCA-2020 to help the Ämari Air base support NATO initiatives, humanitarian efforts and missions, Exelis said Friday.
Dave Prater, vice president and general manager of radar, reconnaissance and undersea systems at Exelis, said the contract award will help expand the company’s transportation radar and air traffic control offerings in Europe.
“Exelis is committed to providing our allies with this key component as they continue to modernize their air traffic management infrastructure and capabilities,†Prater added.
The GCA-2020 is designed as a transportable, electronic radar for primary and secondary surveillance and precision approach.
The system is also intended to be compatible with NATO systems at 11 other facilities in Europe as well as to meet flight safety requirements of the organization.
