Samsung collaborates with U.S. military services to develop a fifth-generation wireless network technology as part of efforts to speed up connectivity and support line-of-sight communications, Defense Systems reported Thursday.
The report said Samsung uses its pre-commercial wave system and equipment to aid ongoing development trials of the 5G technology.
Terry Halvorsen, chief information officer and executive vice president of Samsung’s electronics information technology and mobile communications B2B business unit, was quoted as saying the new 5G offers a “large bandwidth” and works to increase the level of encryption.
Halvorsen added line-of-sight connectivity can be expanded by mounting antennas on unmanned aerial vehicles to facilitate communications among mobile combat units, according to the report.
