Spectro Scientific has received a $9.6 million contract from the U.S. Navy to deliver fluid analysis equipment and provide support services for the military.
The company said Wednesday that it will manufacture, test and deliver approximately 69 M-N/W SpectrOil RDE spectrometers to update current U.S. Marine Corps and Navy oil analysis systems.
Spectro’s M-N/W SpectrOil spectrometer helps users detect and measure metals, contaminants and additives present in various fluids such as coolants and lubricants.
Robert Yurko, vice president of government programs at Spectro Scientific, said that the contract represents the company’s commitment to develop advanced technology systems for aviation platform and equipment maintainers across the U.S. armed forces.
The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division awarded the contract which will also cover the delivery of initial consumables, logistics support documents, technical data and maintenance kits.
Spectro added that the Office of Naval Research also selected Yurko and Patrick Henning, chief technology officer at Spectro, as finalists of the Chief of Naval Research Concept Challenge competition which seeks to develop a portable fluid analysis system.
