The U.S. Special Operations Command has issued a request for information on potential sources of biometrics devices and related capabilities that work to collect and store fingerprints, irises, voice and facial photographs.
USSOCOMÂ said in a FedBizOpps notice published May 26 it is interested in capabilities that have the potential to transmit information to a national database in an electronic biometric transaction format approved by the Defense Department.
The command plans to hold the Tactical Biometrics Event in March 2018 for vendors to train subject matter experts and USSOCOM testers on the use of their devices.
Prior to the two-week event, USSOCOM will conduct technical reviews and limited-user assessments of biometric ID platforms in November and December to determine how special operations forces can use such production models in realistic scenarios.
The event has capability areas of interest that include collection of biometrics data for mass enrollment on forward operating bases and onboard watch list with a capability to store and transmit data to databases for enrollment and matching purposes.
Responses to the RFI are due June 9, according to the notice.
