Lockheed Martin has received a $7.1 million contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to perform research into optical systems.
The Defense Department said Tuesday the research project is part of the Modular Optical Aperture Building Blocks program that aims to explore technologies for the development of ultra-compact light detection and ranging systems.
DARPA obligated $2.0 million from its fiscal 2016 research and development funds at the time of award.
The company’s Coherent Technologies business will carry out the work in Colorado, Minnesota and California through May 2018.
