Northrop Grumman has received a $45.1 million contract modification to replace the processor of large aircraft infrared countermeasure systems for the U.S. Air Force.
The Defense Department said Thursday the modification also includes a foreign military sale to Australia and work will take place at Northrop’s facility in Rolling Meadows, Illinois through April 30, 2018.
The company will also provide support hardware for the LAIRCM technology under the contract, according to DoD.
The Air Force used aircraft procurement, operations and maintenance and overseas contingency operations funds to cover the full obligated amount.
Northrop produces AN/AAQ-24(V) directional IR countermeasures that are designed to integrate with large aircraft as well as small fixed, rotary and tilt-wing aircraft platforms.
The laser-based technology works to protect aerial vehicles against infrared guided missiles, according to Northrop.
