The Department of Homeland Security has solicited white papers for a five-year contract that aims to conduct research and develop security tools for mobile applications, Federal Times reported Friday.
Aaron Boyd writes DHS said in a broad agency announcement posted on FedBizOpps that the Mobile Application Security R&D project seeks to “identify innovative approaches that extend beyond deployment of an app to provide continuous assurance of mobile app security throughout an app’s lifecycle.â€
DHS’ science and technology directorate plans to award up to $2.5 million in contract funds for novel technology platforms, $2 million for prototypes and $1 million for mature technology systems, according to the BAA.
The project’s first technical topic area aims to continuously monitor and evaluate mobile apps in order to protect mobile devices from vulnerabilities, while the second topic area centers on the establishment of a security framework that intends to facilitate the development of mobile apps to support mission needs.
The department’s S&T directorate will conduct an industry day on June 9 and accept white papers for the program by Aug. 1, Boyd reports.
DHS will accept final proposals through Nov. 17 and then select award recipients by Feb. 8, 2017, according to the notice.
