ITJapan-based industrial conglomerate Hitachi Ltd. has established a business unit to help drive the company’s Internet of Things research-and-development and go-to-market  strategic efforts.

Hitachi Insight Group, led by Keiji Kojima, will offer IoT-based technologies and services meant to help government and enterprise customers achieve smart city, energy, healthcare and industrial goals through actionable insights, Hitachi said May 10.

The Santa Clara, California-based unit intends to collaborate with Hitachi Data Systems and Hitachi Consulting to deliver IoT platforms to clients.

“With all the hype surrounding IoT these days, it can be difficult to understand what its real world applications are, or what will net the best return on investment,” noted Jack Domme, Hitachi’s Americas region chief executive.

“Hitachi is working to change that paradigm.” Domme added.

Additionally, Insight Group introduced the Lumada open software platform that seeks to help organizations accelerate development of IoT applications.

The organization also partnered with AT&T, Intel, Microsoft, SAP, PTC and Eurotech SpA to develop IoT and digital tools.
