The U.S. Air Force has begun its search for potential industry sources of a suite of machine-to-machine software programs that the service branch can use in battlefield air operations.
The Air Force plans to incorporate data gathered through a request for information posted April 29 into the Air Force Special Operations Command’s Increment III Capabilities Development document set for validation in the fourth quarter of 2016.
The service branch is interested in buying a software suite to support mission areas such as air superiority, global mobility, global persistent attack, personnel recovery and integrated intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
Responses to the RFI are due June 30.
The Air Force noted it could issue a formal request for proposal for the BAO-M2M software suite in the first quarter of 2017 if the branch completes the market research and subsequently receives approval for the acquisition effort by that time.
